Q1. At what age can my child first start playing in MASA?
4 years old, however it is dependent on when your child turns 5. Seasons run Fall to Spring, so check Available Programs.
Q2. What equipment does my child need to play?
Required:
- Shirts
- Shin guards (must be worn under tall socks)
- Soccer cleats (do not wear cleats from other sports - many have a front toe spike that is dangerous for soccer)
- appropriately sized soccer ball
- water bottle
In-House team shirts (Rec Uniform) can be purchased from the MASA Store. Parents will need to purchase 1 reversible or both the the red and white T-shirts (no need to select team or player). If you have the older reversible shirts, they can be used as well. If for any reason that shirt deliveries are delayed, then just wear a white shirt and bring a red shirt.
Nice to have:
- headband/hair tie to pull back long hair
- ball pump
- goalie gloves (if interested in playing)
- small snack
- change of shoes/sandals for the ride home
- backpack to carry everything
Dick's Sporting Goods often has a discount package available that provides a ball, shinguard, and cleats for players just starting out. For in house there are no color requirements for shorts or socks.
In cold/rainy weather, pants and sweatshirts/jackets/hats/gloves can be worn, but the jersey must be the outermost layer.
No earrings, hard headbands, watches, necklaces, bracelets, or other jewelry are to be worn during game play.
Q3. What color jersey should I wear to my game?
For inhouse games, the team listed first wears white.
Q4. When will MASA cancel games or practices due to weather?
Thunder, lightning or unsafe field conditions will lead to cancellation. Check the field status on the webpage before leaving home.
Q5. Would like my child to play indoor soccer during the winter. Does MASA have a team they can play for?
MASA does not officially sponsor indoor teams at Sportrak located in Sewickly. However, a number of MASA coaches do put together teams to play at Sportrak and other winter soccer programs. We suggest contacting your coach and/or age group coordinator to see if they can give you a list of the coach volunteers in your age group that are planning to put teams together in the winter.
